About Dickie Woods

Technology that keeps good immigration help within reach.

Our mission

U.S. immigration help should not belong only to those who can afford it.

The U.S. immigration system is complex, and good help is expensive. Many people face it with no realistic way to understand their own situation. They end up paying premium fees for answers they could have grasped themselves, or they go without help at all.

Dickie Woods exists to change that. It gives ordinary people a low-cost, plain-English way to understand the system and their rights, grounded in the actual law, so they can do more for themselves and know exactly what to ask before they ever pay a lawyer.

Crucially, Dickie Woods answers from primary law and a curated professional knowledge base, not a general chatbot's memory, and it always shows its sources.

Grounded in real law

Statute, regulations, agency guidance and case law, with citations, not guesswork.

Plain English, for everyone

Built for people, not lawyers. A complex system explained in language anyone can follow.

Built lean, priced low

Self-funded, no outside investors, kept affordable so the "little guy" is not priced out.

Not a substitute for a lawyer

Information and education only. For advice on your situation, consult a qualified attorney.

Lemuel "Lemmy" Lim

Founder, Lemmy Law · Creator of Dickie Woods

Lemmy built Dickie Woods after seeing the same pattern in different places: legal fees are often priced in a way that shuts ordinary people out. During his postgraduate studies at the University of Washington (Seattle), he came across research on the problems of access to justice stemming from the high fees charged by the legal profession. It troubled him deeply, and set him on a path to find ways to make legal help more affordable.

Lemmy began his immigration practice in Everett, Washington, advising individuals, professionals, investors, and companies on navigating U.S. immigration law. His background combines U.S. immigration practice with experience in technology, tax, banking and capital markets, M&A, and corporate law across multiple jurisdictions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Singapore.

Prior to founding Lemmy Law, he served as Head of Legal for a Singapore-based technology company, leading the legal function across immigration, corporate structuring, tax, intellectual property, employment, data governance, and commercial contracting. Earlier in his career he built his professional foundation in financial services in London and Singapore, with roles at Goldman Sachs, HSBC, and The Bank of New York Mellon.
